“The linden tree still stands proudly, protectively, in the middle of my grandparents’ garden, and for me it means childhood memories by the dozen… The sweet, bewitching scent of its flowers carefully picked. Its shade in summer when the sun beats down too hard. Generations have passed through this house, and it has been home to boisterous games of belote, never-ending meals, laughter, tears too, children’s games and old people’s naps. It’s everything and much more.”

“It was in the playground in Provence: tall, leafy trees protected us from the scorching sun. I saw a classmate chewing on tiny seeds that he was extracting from a tiny, wrinkled shell. See! You can eat them, you know, my grandpa told me, they’re the seeds of the linden tree!” As the comrade resumed his rodent task, I looked up and watched the dance of linden blossoms in the elementary school playground, as the wind blew.”

“Nice, avenue Jean Medecin… I come out of the cinema and with my nose in the air, I inhale the intoxicating perfume of the linden trees… of course, a man bumps into me, I apologize, he invites me for a drink… a few months later, he’s become my companion… thanks to the perfume of the linden trees!”

“The linden tree is for me the protective tree, it remains in the precious memories of another life in Bougival. Majestic and gigantic, it kept watch over our bedroom, providing welcome shade in summer. A soft shade of green flooded the room when the linden tree played in the sun, and its scent offered an incomparable fragrance to our nights. I renamed our old, pink-tinted house the House of the Linden Tree, because I liked to believe deeply that it was above all the master of the house. Since then, every linden tree I come across on a walk or bike ride, in town or in the country, has graced me with its incomparable scent, like a perfume that accompanies my memories.

“I have so many childhood memories of my grandmother drying linden and verbena to make herbal teas. She used to make bags for the parish fair, and I used to help her! The linden trees in the schoolyard, where we used to look for a bit of fresh air to play hopscotch, bungee jumping and jacks”.

“It’s the smell I associate with the memory of a stormy evening when I was coming home from school. A scent mixed with the smell of warm, wet earth and a soaked white cotton T-shirt. A soothing memory.”

Do you know of many trees that celebrate the senses and shake the memory to such an extent? The linden tree is undoubtedly the most emotional tree there is; it’s what entirely guided the creation of TiL, with products that are obviously natural and effective, but also wildly sensorial to offer you a few minutes of carefree moments under an avenue of blossoming linden trees… Perfumer Francis Kurkdjian’s interpretation of the tree in L’Eau Qui Enlace was subjected to neuroscientific scrutiny in a study. The result was that its olfactory note had an impact on 3 emotions, the ones we probably need most at the moment… joy, relaxation and comfort.
